I’m still in love.

OK friends, I took my new shoes out for a spin. The one out of the two options that I had and I’m pretty sure we were made for eachother. So option number two for shoes. Are you ready for them?!

This angle makes me look so tall and strong!
And up close and personal…
You’re probably thinking, “Siobhan, those are your old shoes. You just washed them!” Friends, I bought the exact same shoes. Same brand, same size, same style number, and the exact same colour. I was so against this idea but I put them on went for a jog in the store and said, “I’m still in love!” So I put them in their box and said, “Yep, they’re the ones!”

It’s funny because I came home and read my book ZEN AND THE ART OF RUNNING By Larry Shapiro:

and he said that when you have a Zen attitude you find a product that works for you and you stick with it. You need to experiment with different products and find the ones that work best for you. Stability 760’s (aka my sole mates) I’m glad we are together again! But I have learned from this experience and I will be special ordering my next pair of shoes very soon!

And another plus– my legs felt so good at boot camp! I didn’t want to chance them being 100% so I came home and heated my legs while watching The Bachelor. Nobody likes leg pain coming back for revenge!

This is me feeling sorry for Michelle for the first time ever.

And how excited am I for another week of The Bachelor?! How could I even forget that there is a “The Women Tell All” episode the week before the proposal. Ahhh-may-ziiing!

March Goals

When I realised that today was March 1st, it dawned on me that my spring races are coming up REALLY soon. So soon that I decided I should keep reminding myself of how many days away they are on my office computer.

Knowing that my races are coming up pushes me to train harder. Really, only 32 days until my hilly Harry race? It feels like just yesterday the snow was starting to fall. Having my goals staring at me in the face is an amazing constant reminder that I have to keep pushing myself. I’m the type of girl who loves deadlines. If I don’t have a deadline and an agenda– I forget. I just have too many thoughts in my head that always come out. This is why one of my nicknames is Dory after the fish from Finding Nemo. I guess everyday is a Triple Tangent Tuesday for me!
Goals and post-its. They’re my favourite.
Last night at boot camp I really felt that I have come a long way from day one of stepping into that class. Last night I was competitive. And not with the others in the class but with myself. When we did speed intervals- I was running like I was being attacked by a dog. I’m scared of dogs. Only the ones that are bigger than me. That is pretty much all of them. When we started doing tire runs I started feeling like Kelly Kapowski in the episode of Saved By The Bell, “Zack’s War” when they are training like they are in the army. The only difference was that I had to imagine the tires because we didn’t actually have them.
I guarantee I looked ridiculous (not as ridiculous as the platypus walk) and I felt great! I’m really sad that next week will be my last boot camp session for the winter. I’ve really learned to love boot camp!
This also means that it’s the last night of coming home and having a post-workout smoothie while watching The Bachelor. A season finale and the last winter boot camp class?! It’s just crazy that they both end on the same night!
Last night’s smoothie was a four fruit (raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and strawberry), ground flax seed, and soy smoothie. Deeelish!

And The Nominees Are…

It’s one of my favourite times again. It’s award season! Today the Academy Award nominees were released for 2011 which means- I’m going to have to catch up on my movie watching!

I could only imagine the feelings that all of these artists are going through as they wait to hear their name on  TV or a live streaming. (Thank you, oscars.go.com) I wish their was video documentation of the different artists jumping up and down as they hear their name being announced. Ahhh, AA my countdown to Sunday February 27th is ON! In 33 days I will be watching all the elegant gowns and tux’s and saying to myself, “I wish I was there!”

Here’s to hoping that I watch all of the nominated movies by then. So far I think I have only seen three… eeks!  I clearly have a lot of work to do.

AND THE NOMINEES ARE…

And yes, my killer boot camp lady kicked my butt again last night. As I was watching The Bachelor last night I said, “Wow, that wasn’t so bad. I don’t feel in pain at all!” And then as I walked around this morning I could feel my muscles have been worked. Espcially in my glutes. Thanks for another glorious butt kicking with boxing, boot camp lady!

Love your playlist.

Love. Not Like. LOVE!

If every song on your playlist doesn’t make you want to get up and dance- how can you possibly finish that extra mile when your legs are aching and starting to feel like lime green jell-o? Songs can change your mood. You may have gone into your run thinking “I really don’t want to do this today” but as soon as you start going and that music is pumping in your ear buds- nothing can stop you!

I like to make my playlists right before I run. This way I know exactly what type of music I am in the mood for. I might just want a slower song to get me into the run followed by some full force pump up jams. Life can get busy and sometimes we just don’t have the time to constantly go through our music library and look through all those songs to find out what we “might” want to hear. I recommend making a master cardio playlist. Then you can see all the hundreds of songs that get you excited everytime they come on. This makes it really easy to build a great playlist in under 5 minutes!

Save all your playlists you create and title them in the mood you are feeling at that moment. This way you can build up your playlist collection! I love being able to step outside and decide in the moment what playlist I feel like rocking out to.

Research new music. If you hear a song on a commercial, in a TV show (even if it’s On The Wings of Love from The Bachelor) find out what it is and add to your list! Don’t worry- I won’t judge you. Why? Because you are the only one who can hear your music! Unless you are singing it out loud like I did yesterday. Or you are singing On The Wings of Love in the grocery store while picking out your frozen peas. Yep, I witnessed that the other week and I laughed out loud by myself! Hilarious. I love it!

Some people also like running silent. Yeah, that’s not me. But maybe one day I will try it!

I would also like to try running to a podcast one day. A long time ago my friend introduced me to Jian Ghomeshi’s Q podcast. Jian talks about art, culture, and entertainment with some great guests on interesting topics. I think I would be focused enough on the conversations to get lost in my thoughts on the run. Check it out, you may fall in love!

For now I’m sticking with a musical playlist. I can’t wait to put this track on my next one. I just heard it this morning thanks to iTunes!
