Friday’s Confession: Oprah

Today’s confession is all about the big O. It seems like everyone loves Oprah and is sad to see her off the television. In all honesty, I was never an Oprah lover. I don’t think I have ever sat through an entire Oprah episode. But when I heard she ran a full marathon, I was all into her story. Oprah ran a full marathon in 4:29:15 at the Marine Corps Marathon in 1994. And this picture just makes me smile:

If Oprah did run a marathon, so can I, right? It’s really not in my cards right now and I will stick to my goal of a 30K this year but one day I just might do the whole thing. Here’s the Runner’s World inspirational article on this high-waisted running shorts lady:

I love that Oprah can inspire so many people. If you google “Oprah Marathon” you will find that a lot of people are saying, “If Oprah can sub-4:30 a marathon, so can I!” I love it. Oprah now has some points in my books.

Happy Friday Friends!

Friday’s Confession: I go to the library for music

First: Sorry for my lack of new posts. Blooger Blogger has been down so I couldn’t keep you updated on my life. Not to worry, I’m still alive and building my playlist for the Toronto Half on Sunday!

When researching new music and trying to find new pump up jams I like to go to my local library. You wouldn’t believe the gems you can find there! I always come home surrounded with vintage compact discs. OK, they aren’t technically vintage but in a digital world, I think the kids are calling them that nowadays!

Along with new releases you will for sure find some (if not all) these hits from the late 90’s:

You know what’s embarrassing? All Saints was in the return cart at the library and the librarian was about to check it in and a part of me reeaaaally wanted to ask if I could take it out. I refrained. Maybe it will be there next time? ha!

But seriously, you can find new releases on the shelves and some of them just might be your next powersong. Especially soundtracks. The amount of high energy jams on those are amazing! I’m actually pretty excited to take a listen to Burlesque.

I also went into the angry jams section because I don’t own any of that “screamo” genre. I hear that sometimes when you don’t feel like running you just need an intense tune to pick up your energy. But, no luck. That is probably for the best because I don’t like when artists are yelling at me. Why do they have to be so angry all the time?! I would prefer some chemical brothers and their block rockin’ beats but I have that kickin’ around on cassette somewhere. I know, how vintage am I?

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

Fat Lip; Stellar Playlist.

I woke up with a fat lip staring at me in the mirror:

This could be for one of two reasons 1) I had a Snooki moment in a bar last night 2) I ran my body down. I would love to tell you that my fat lip resulted in option one but I’m lame and option two is really how this bad boy showed up in my life. Everyone’s body tells them that they are draining themselves differently and lucky for me I get Angelina Jolie lips when I do. Awesome!

This became the debate: do I run 18K and hope that my body doesn’t go into shock and make my lips fatter or do I rest and do 18K another day? I was very tempted to go with option two but the sun was shining and it was finally acceptable to wear shorts on a run. So, option one it was. I loaded up on protein bars and Gatorade and put a smile on my face:

You can hardly even tell my lip is fat when I smile! Win, win? I’d say! I actually had a stellar playlist during today’s run. I have a slight obsession with So You Think You Can Dance hence the reason why I am so excited that Cat Deeley is hosting the Royal Wedding on CNN on Friday morning. But I also fell in love with Stage Fright by Blake McGrath after watching his dance audition themed music video.

And then the rest of the playlist just made me declare that this my favourite running playlist of the moment. I know, big statement. Here’s how it went:

This run was actually a hard one. It was about 10 degrees hotter than I am use to and it was humid. Throughout my run I started to wish that I went out earlier but after seeing many runner friends, I came to the conclusion that you have to be prepared for whatever type of weather you will get on race day. And- I love the heat and sunshine so it was easy to stay out there. I decided that running for time was out the window and I was just running to complete 18K. I know that if it was 10 degrees colder, I would have had an amazing pace with this playlist. So, at 10K I re-fueled with some sport beans and just kept running like Forrest.

You might be wondering why my lip is actually fat. And it’s from renovations:

This dark colour was leaving and a new bright colour was coming in:

Mumsy started messing about and wrote my name on the wall. She only got as far as “Sio” and decided it could be a key segment on today’s blog. So Nancy Love, these pictures are for you. She thanked me by slacking off some more and doodling on the other wall:

I hope your Easter Sunday is filled with creme eggs the size of a mountain!.. (Or whatever candy is your weapon of choice!)

Happy Easter, friends!
And Sporting Life BFF’s– one week today! 🙂

Friday’s Confession: Never Grow Up and Marry You.

Today’s confession, I want to have an Easter Egg Hunt. That’s right. I love the idea of going and hunting for chocolate eggs even though I’m told I’m not 4 years old anymore. Really though? Why do I have to miss out on the fun because I am 25? That’s just not fair. So, I decided if no one will make me an egg hunt I will have to make my own. I found a delicious recipe for Easter Hunt Cookies- Egg’s In The Grass on Dana’s blog MADE. And look how delicious these little guys turned out:

Easter Hunt Cookies

I’m warning you- you will want to sneak a lot of the cookie dough as you are making these and may gain about 10 pounds like I did. Just kidding. But I did eat a tonne of them! PB is perfect protein, right?

Another tip: you might want to use good food colouring. I just used the tiny cheap ones from the grocery store and I ended up using the entire tube and they weren’t a bright green grass colour like Dana had.

They were pretty bright green when they went into the oven but when they came out, they did have some golden brown and a darker green. I guess that is what the grass looks like now though.

I also used Mini Eggs instead of Easter m&m’s. Mainly because I couldn’t find them anywhere in the grocery store.

Yea, I got caught licking the spoon when the first batch was in the oven.

In my defense- I just got back from boot camp and let’s face it– I looked like a sweaty mess. Who am I kidding? I still would have done this. And every time I eat so much batter that I don’t really want the cookies when they come out of the oven. I just never learn.

I also have Royal Wedding Fever at the moment. I would like to blame TLC. The catchy commercials with Bruno Mars’ song Marry You is just too addicting. I listen to this song about a million times a day on repeat.

And just to pull my heart strings even more– CNN will be covering the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton with hosts Anderson Cooper, Piers Morgan, and Cat Deeley. I think I am about to confess that I just might be up at 4am watching the Royal Wedding on TV. Only because my invite got lost in the mail of course. Now I am forced to watch it in my comfies on my couch snuggled with a latte.

I forgive you Will and Kate.

Thank you TLC for making me fall in love with this song as well:

Here’s another confession: I could be running to a royal playlist soon.

Happy Earth Day Friends!
