Friday’s Confession: What is S&M?

Sometimes I think I’m seriously uncool. Like those times when I always spill something on myself:

The Coffee Incident

The Spinach Soup Incident

But friends, this confession just might take the cake. After singing along to Rihanna a hundred times and having dance offs to B and Rih’s remix of S&M I asked myself, what does S&M mean?! I know right. Everyone probably already knows the answer to that question or will gom “ahhhh yes!” By the end of this post.

I obviously had to google it. You know you have hit the height of cool when you google to know what the pop culture terms mean. I looked to my friend Dictionary.com:

And then everything made sense. I also felt pretty ridiculous for not knowing that sooner and I had to listen to the remix a few more times and hardcore dance break to it and then listen to it again as I set out for a tempo 8K run.

I’d like to think other people are hanging out in the same yacht as me but, I’m probably sailing alone.

To everyone in BOSTON this weekend– have an amazing run! I wish I was there. Here’s another confession, I’m getting pretty jealous of everyone’s sweet Boston Marathon 2011 jackets:

Is that a good enough reason to BQ?!

Have a fabulous weekend friends!

Hoodlums Can’t Stop Me.

I’ve been itching for a long run for days. My long runs kept getting delayed by weather so, I took the opportunity and headed out last night. I loaded up on food (as per usual) and liquids (I’m getting better at this one) all day. I put my cardio playlist on shuffle and headed out.  It was a nice sunny day so I put some sunscreen on my nose scar for the first time this year, put on my sunglasses and was eager to get out there.

At the 5K mark, my legs started to feel the extra hills that I threw into my run. But I was feeling good. At 7K I ran into the rudest people. Seriously. I was running the path in the park and three high school boys were walking towards me and decided to take up the entire pathway with their one bike and themselves. I figured they would be polite and move to the side of the path so that I could run past but instead, as I get two feet away from the hoodlums, they stopped walking. They left me with hardly any room to run by thinking that I would stop. Too bad for them I am tiny and just kept running past them. Seriously, where did they get their manners from? I’m pretty sure they thought I was also in high school but no, I graduated from there almost a decade ago. So, I didn’t let them stop me and I just kept going. I did have 16 kilometers to do after all. I wasn’t going to hang out behind a 7-11.

About a kilometer later I completely shook it off and I had that feeling where you didn’t think about how far you just ran or how much farther you have to go. Just running to run. It was awesome. And I passed by  runner friends and gave them a smile and a wave. Is it weird that I automatically think that if you are a runner, you are my best friend?

One of my favourite tracks during this run was Sandcastle Disco by Solange.

Tunes for Tuesday!

I love when spring comes around and you can breakout your flats and everyone around you just seems so much happier because they know that summer is almost here. And along with that- fun, new music always comes onto the scene! Although with spring comes the “chance of rain” days. I had one of those days where I scheduled a long run. I checked The Weather Network and they told me the rain has been called off. So, I left this note as I headed out the door:

I was pumped up and ready to run with my new favourite playlist. I was loving my life as I rocked out to T-Pain–

And then I hit the 3K mark. I heard thunder. I may have said, “awwww sheet!” Except, I didn’t say sheet.

Running through a park with thunder is not my idea of fun. Because when thunder is heard, you can almost guarantee that there will be lightning. I was listening out for more thunder while making alternate routes to ensure I was safe during my run. I did have 13 more kilometers left on the agenda but I was prepared to cut it short. When I hit the 5K mark, the rain started to come down harder and I didn’t feel too crazy being out in the downpour because there were other runners out there with me. And then I thought, “maybe we are just all crazy?”

I got to the point where I was 400 meters away from home and then I saw it. Lightning. I bolted home. Ha! Bolted. But seriously, I was sprinting. My run ended at 7.54 km.

I hate when you have a really great stride and you are cut short for reasons that you can’t even control. The crazy part was- I kept saying, “maybe the thunder and lightning will stop and I can get back out there– now.” It definitely did not end. So, I let it go and drank some choclate milk and called it a day for running.

Now the challenge is: to fit in more long runs throughout my week to make up for it.

Dear Spring,

I have a love/dislike relationship with you sometimes. But mainly it’s all love. Until you thunderstorm on my long run days.

Friday’s Confession: Bad Race Photos.

I take HORRIBLE race day photos. And I like to think that it’s not me, it’s the TMZ camera guys who are hiding out in the trees who manage to take your picture at your worst. Celebrities, I feel your pain.

For your viewing pleasure, you get to see me at my worst. I got my Harry photos in an e-mail yesterday with 4 images. 3 out of the 4 I wasn’t even in. So, this is the one professional beauty I got:

Could I be any less attractive? Seriously. What am I doing and why are my eyes closed AGAIN?! For my next race, the Sporting Like 10K, my goal is to get at least one nice professional photo of myself. This may mean I have to smile and look up the entire time. Maybe even hold my hand up as if I am waving or giving someone a high five? I will get the perfect photo during the next race. I will start that training tonight.

And just because this is Friday’s Confession, I’m about to share with you two of the worst photos from the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon. Be warned: I’m even embarrassed of these photos.

I know, They’re awful. And I look like I’m about to pass out. But let’s be honest, a race that starts at 10pm means that I should have been in bed by the time the race ended. So, it was siesta time in my mind.

On a brighter note, yesterday I ran within my goal pace and did a 5K at an average of 5:10 min/km followed by an awesome kettle bell class. My muscles are loving me from the high intensity weight workout! Kelly Ripa’s biceps- eat your heart out!

And tonight I get to learn how to use my “interval workout” option on my Garmin. Yes, I do need all the luck I can get.

I still can’t believe I just shared those race photos with you. At least I didn’t buy these photos because then I would have to tell you that these are my “bad paid for photos.” And that would be more embarrassing. Right? Maybe I’m just trying to make myself feel better. Either way, I am the worst for taking race pictures… You’re welcome!
