Extra Bold Coffee With A Side of Inspiration, Please!

Yesterday I had quite the eventful day. I got to work to find a sheet of ice outside of my office door. I was honestly afraid I was going to drop my extra bold coffee to the ground which would lead to a sad decaffeinated morning.

So, I took every step carefully with my durable UGG rain boots that people like to make fun of and say I look 12 in but- I love them. And they keep me warm with their fur lining. Perfect!
As I sat at my office desk I looked up to see a man in his 50’s falling in mid air and come down on that hard walkway. I immediately left the office to see if he was OK and all he said was, “I just need an ambulance.” Easy enough. I got on the phone and the man managed to make it into my office and onto my couch. While we waited for the paramedics, I learnt that he was just leaving from the massage therapists office. How brutal is that?! To get all your kinks out and then hit the hard ice with full force. He ended up breaking a rib and had to be taken away to the hospital. I took his car keys upstairs to the masseuse’s office so that his son could come and get his car. I felt so bad and I got scared everytime someone passed my office window and I would say, “please don’t fall, please don’t fall!”
Throughout the day I couldn’t help but think, “Is Steve OK?” And then I thought, I could NEVER run on ice sheets even with shoe grips. With my luck, what happened to Steve walking would happen to me running. I don’t know how those runners do it! I can’t even eat soup without spilling it on myself! This was my lunch yesterday:
mmmm, spinach soup!
As I prepped my for my speedy 7K run, I decided it would be fun to throw some way back playback songs onto my playlist. Who doesn’t love running to Dance Mix ’95, Hanson, and S Club 7? I ask you that! And they were perfect powersongs. I put my playlist on a jukebox shuffle so that I wouldn’t know the order of my new top 40 meets old top 40 playlist. I loved it. I’m sure the girl walking on on the t-mill while talking on the phone next to me loved hearing my oldies blaring out of my ear buds. And I think drinking a bottle of Vitamin Water before my runs is helping. I went with the XXX before this run. You gotta love everything Costco sized! I love not having to hydrate all the time on my run and my mission to drink water all day long just doesn’t seem to be working lately. But I’m still persistent at making it work!
And have you seen Jennifer Aniston’s gone viral?! I love her. She’s hilarious. She may have inspired me to make a vlog. And drink Vitamin Water again. And get internet boys. And do my make-up like hers. So much inspiration in one video!

Hot in Herre

Friends, I did it. My second outdoor run in February. There was ice. There was snow. And I even remembered to bring my camera! (Which is attached to my phone and I really should have my phone on me at all times in case I roll my ankle. Just like that time when I hit the ground and was 4km away from home- whoops!) I ran into those huge ice chunks under a bridge again! As I was walking so carefully over the ice, I met a new running friend and we bonded over trying not to fall. I wonder if she heard me take a picture of her as she ran away? I hope she doesn’t think I’m crazy! But we all know she would be right.

My new running friend who conquered the ice!

I would like to thank the icy conditions for slowing down my pace. I don’t know if you noticed this or not but I can be pretty clumsy. So, I wanted to make sure I didn’t hit any black ice along the way.

I accidentally put my entire ipod on shuffle during this run. The danger with that is coming across songs that you don’t want to listen to. But the fun in it is that you have NO idea what is coming next. I went with it but I’m not gonna lie- I pressed “next” quite a few times. I think my favourite song that came up was Nelly’s “Hot in Herre.” I mean- I’m surrounded by ice and snow and this man is singing to me about getting so hot that I want to take my clothes off. Hilarious and fun.

Post run I made myself a PB Smoothie. SO DELICIOUS! I got my yummy protein from the PB, my selenium from my soy milk, and potassium from my banana. How perfect?! I wanted to show you a picture of my smoothie but I really wanted it as soon as it was made and forgot to take a picture. So, here’s my empty glass:

You’re just going to have to believe that it looked as good as it tasted!

Running On Ice.

I woke up to wind gusts going by my window at 59 km/h with very light snow flurries drifting amongst the wind. I officially call myself a wimp because I am not running in “feels like -8 degrees celcius” weather. Sorry, friends. It’s time for me to get my gym membership back and hit the T-Mill for the next few months. Which, lucky for you means I will probably have more embarrassing stories like the day I almost fell off the T-Mill. Awesome! But that will only last until we get back into the positive degrees and I can hit the pavement again.

I was excited because I got my new nike+ sensor last night and I was ready to wake-up and run. Instead I will just have to throw on my big jacket that makes me feel like I am wrapped up in a blanket and do some holiday shopping. Maybe send out those christmas cards while sipping a mocha latte and watching Elf. Perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I love winter activities. Snowboarding, skating, and snowball fights. But running on ice just freaks me out! I fell like I will fall, hit my head on the ice, and not wake up again. I’m an indoor running pet again this season.

As the American Thanksgiving arrived so did multiple messages on my berry. I woke up reading that my friend was walking across the street and got hit by a car. Why do my blogs sound like I have so many tragic events lately?! I swear I’m still as bubbly as ever! Luckily, she is alive and survived four nights in the trauma ward at the hospital. She is safe at home and on bed rest. I couldn’t be more thankful that everyday she is getting better. Even though I am not in the USA, I celebrated being thankful for friends, family and friends that are so close they might as well be family on the American Thanksgiving.

Maybe next year I will get tickets to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  It just look sooo fun! The floats, the singers, dancers, entertainers, and ginormous cartoon balloons! Ahhhh-may-zing!
