Sorry Circadian Clock!

During yesterday’s workout I decided to throw in 2 hills. I don’t know what was with me but it was a bit of a struggle. Going up the first hill killed. I started to wonder how I was even going to make it for the rest of the run. And then the worst happened– the shin and ankle pain came back. I ended up cutting my run short at 6.68 km. I thought I had rested my legs enough but apparently not.

When I got home I was completely exhausted. I went to have a restful evening on the couch while heating my legs and I fell asleep at 8:30pm. I think I am about to blame daylight savings time. I love waking up in the morning and seeing that it is sunny and now that the clocks have gone back an ahead one hour I wake up to darkness. Waaah! My circadian clock is definitely thrown off. I didn’t think moving the clocks back one hour really made that much of a difference to my body but– I was sadly proven wrong. This morning, coffee is my best friend even after ten hours of sleep.

I’m hoping to get a good stretch and strength workout in tonight but I do not want to become a zombie again afterwards.

Also, my teeny bopper side is coming out strong today. I found some new music by the cutest celeb teen couple, Selena Gomez and The Biebs. I think my circadian clock threw me back to my crazy teen pop days because I think I like these songs a lot.

Guess what tomorrow is–MY BIRTHDAY!! If you want to do something for me I would love it if you voted for me in BEST HEALTH MAGAZINE’S BLOG AWARDS! You can do it HERE!

Hello, Birthday Week!

It’s here– my birthday week! Yep, a whole week just for me! On Thursday I will be a quarter of a century.

So, for day one of my birthday week I am doing a two-a-day.

Exercise number one: taking Carlos for a walk.

Yea, it wasn’t too strenuous.

Workout number two: I’m gonna hit some hills on the t-mill for 7 km’s.

And of course come home to the season finale of The Bachelor. Yes, I’m still on Team Emily!

And just because I love my running celebrities, I found Jake Pavelka from The Bachelor at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Chicago!

I really want to do a Rock ‘n’ Roll. I’m hoping to fit one into my schedule this year. I’m thinking Miami Beach with all their salsa fun or possibly with glow sticks in Vegas. My debate is, I don’t know if I want to run a half marathon at night again. It just feels like such a long day. I was incredibly antsy the day of the Disney Wine and Dine and 10pm felt like it would never arrive. That could also be because I am one big morning person and if I rested properly this time, I would probably would be fine.
Either way, it would be a fun trip for me and my running bff’s!

Manned up and headed for the hills.

I had a date with my t-mill and we decided to do some hills. As you know, hills on a t-mill scare me. I have this fear that the incline might get too high and I won’t be able to keep up with the speed. And I can really visualize myself falling off of mister t-mill just like in those home videos. Embarrassing, right? It would happen to me. I would put money on it.

I manned up and headed for the hills anyways.

I forgot to go in with a game plan on how many km’s I would do per incline (again) so I winged it.

And it felt really good! Minus the fact that mr. t-mill did not give me any roses, chocolate, or jewellery. I know, I wish he did. Instead I visualized my peanut butter cups over the hill. And they tasted sooooo good when I ate them!

I was really indecisive picking my playlist for today so I went with my go-to playlist. The one I need when the motivation just doesn’t seem there.

Detour.

Going out for my last run I had full intentions on doing a nice long distance run. But after all of the rain that had been coming down lately, the bridges that I was about to cross under had been flooded. I was then forced to take a different route. So, as I was running and thinking of different excuses I could use to bail (including cutting my run short and doing a core workout or yoga) luckily I snapped myself out of it and said “nope, today is hill training day.” After the 6k run I re-stretched, took a little walk and headed for the hills. It was 3k worth of hill repeats for this running girl. I was feeling pretty good but I told myself that I would keep doing hills until either a) it started to rain or b) I reached 10k. None of these options happened. Why? Because I went to change my music after my playlist ended and accidentally pressed “end workout” after 9km. I took that as a sign and took a little stroll home.

I’m not sure why I was so filled with giving myself options and excuses during this run. But I do know that once you start giving yourself excuses it’s easier to get in the habit of constantly detouring. So, it’s time to start a new training program so that my runs don’t feel like a chore.
