Summer has it’s staples for me. I love going to the Farmer’s Market and stocking up with every seasonal  fruit and vegetable. Call me crazy but I even love soup in the summer. It’s not even chilled soup, but it’s a tomato, spinach, and rice soup. I cannot get enough of it. I had two bowls for dinner last night… I’m a soup-aholic. 

The other night I made a Leek and Potato soup with the veg I bought at the Farmer’s Market. I wasn’t kidding, I love soup. My fridge is even running out of leftovers: 

You usually get my crazy soup posts in the fall but the veg is too good in the summer to wait! 

Another fall favourite that has turned into a summer love? PIE! Meat pies, pumpkin pies, and bumbleberry pies… I love them all! The best day ever was finding a little place called The Pie Shack after Stand Up Paddlboarding in the beaches in Toronto. A pie for lunch and a pie for dessert? Perfect. 

My sweet tooth has also grown over the summer. I don’t know if it was because of all the sweets I had on vacation or if I’m using that one as a little excuse. Let’s be honest, it’s probably an excuse. But I made some delicious banana muffins and devoured a donut with my coffee at a meeting yesterday morning. Sometimes you just have to give into your cravings! 

Another staple is my iced tea and salads. They just go so well together. 

My newest iced tea obsession? Main Squeeze. This tea is a blend of orange, pineapple, and papaya with a punch of yerba green mate. Mate tea is full of antioxidants and energy-giving stimulants. It’s as powerful as coffee so it’s a great lunch time energy boost! I’m addicted. 

Veggies, fruit, tea and sweets. I’m gonna say those are well balanced summer staples!
