Season 9, Zodiac Time.

On Wednesday, I went to my first cheerleading practice of season 9. The funny thing is, everyone wants to know how much of a break I get between each season. Well, not very much. Once I got back from Worlds on May 5th, we didn’t have any more team practices so I went in for “open gyms.” This is when the gym is open to all athletes and you get to stunt, tumble, jump, or condition. So, I went in once a week until tryouts happened on May 25th. And then I had two weeks off. But, I went to other gyms during those two weeks to continue training.

So really, I never stopped.

But on Wednesday, it felt like the first day of school:

Bow in, my cheerleading backpack was filled with all the necessaries, and a coffee to get my muscles feeling alive. I was about to meet my new team. And it is one jacked team. But first, I did my 45 minute private tumbling class.

I got to the gym and it has a fresh new feel. The gym got all new flooring this year which makes it super bouncy, fresh, and ready to be worked. Here’s a peek at how the renovations went down:

The old floor was ripped out:

The new floor was put into place:

The new floor got tested with some tumbling action:

And all the mats were laid out:

And most importantly, the WORLDS banners were added to the collection:

At the end of my tumbling session I did As Many Reps As Possible (AMRAP) of the following in 8 minutes:

5 Push Ups
10 Sit Ups
15 Squats
I think I did about 9 reps. I’m not going to lie, I was saving my body for the 2 hour team practice that I was about to have.

As I said before, I’m on the International Open All-Girl Level 6 Zodiac team. What is the zodiac? Every team in our gym is named after the solar system. We have stratosphere, cosmos, mini dippers, etc. This way it is easier to distinguish what all the teams are instead of saying I’m on “level 4.” So naturally, our team made ourselves a theme song skip to 1:07 to hear it:

#WhatsYourZodiacSign is now our officially hashtag. So, if you see me tweeting that- you are now in the know! If this song comes on when we are all on the dancefloor, I feel sorry for everyone around us!
The first practice was amazing. And I am in LOVE with my Zodiacs. We have one fierce team this year. Everyone is so driven to keep pushing their skills and be the best of the best for when we go for our Worlds 2013 bid.
We were sweating glitter with our jumps, tumbling, stunting for 2 hours and then good old conditioning. Lucky for me it was the same one that I did after tumbling but it was 2 minutes longer:
AMRAP in 10 minutes:

5 Push Ups
10 Sit Ups
15 Squats

I did 12 reps. Not too bad I would say! And surprisingly, I could still walk the next day. But when I do certain movements, my muscles feel it! And I LOVE that feeling!
I’m so pumped for this cheer season! #WrittenInTheStars
