Hello, I’m Siobhan! Everyone thinks I’ve always been a runner but I started like every newbie – gasping for air, trying to make it to the next stop sign on both feet and not knowing what it meant to fuel my body. I started running to stay in shape while working in professional theatre with the goal of running a 5K without stopping. While reaching milestones, I fell in love with the sport.
I started running 14K on a treadmill for fun and a personal trainer came up to me and asked me if I was a marathoner. I looked at him like he had 3 heads. When I went home, I googled that a half marathon was only 21K and thought, “maybe I can do that?..” With a two week family vacation to Florida planned and the Inaugural Wine and Dine Half Marathon happening the night before I flew back home, my sister and I decided to sign up. #goaldiggers
13.1 miles after a two week vacation. We were nuts. I was exhausted. A 10PM start time, poorly fuelled (despite all the Runner’s World articles I’ve read) but ready to run with a smile on my face. I survived but it wasn’t pretty. I was out of electrolytes, had very little energy and just wanted to sleep. Clearly, I was uneducated on running in 2010 and I’ve come a long way since then.
That was the night I said I would never run a half marathon again. I woke up the next day and was ready for more and I haven’t looked back.
Through my blog, I found a passion for fitness writing and social media. I decided to turn my hobby to a career and went into public relations. I’m extremely luck to do what I love every single day.
